Series 1 – Part 1

Introduction

Hello all! Wishing each one of you a very good day!

Safal Fintech is starting a series of blogs that will highlight a major factor when it comes to investing – “Are you a choice investor or a chance investor?

We will begin by highlighting the key factors and decisions involved in investing, as well as how these elements influence what type of investor you truly are.

Before starting, we wanted to bring your attention to the sign that you see above. It is an “Infinity” symbol, also called the “Eternal” symbol or “Forever” symbol, which represents eternity, continuity, constant regeneration, and something that keeps going on in an eternal loop forever and never ends

Hence, we wish all our readers eternal, constant, and continuing growth in their wealth. We at Safal Fintech take this endeavor of growing your wealth very seriously. Thank you very much for reading this blog series, and we hope you like the content and learn from it.

So, let’s begin by first explaining to you what we mean when we say, “Be a Choice Investor, Not a Chance Investor!”

When we say "Choice Investor," we mean someone who chooses to be an investor. On the other hand, a chance investor is someone who is getting influenced or following in the footsteps of someone who has been investing regularly over a period of time and then comes and influences you to do the same.

In my entire life span of managing people’s wealth, I have observed there are two challenges people face when it comes to managing people’s money. The first one is that almost every investor that I have come across in my career seems to be a chance investor. Very few of them are Choice Investors. The second challenge that I have observed is that even if you are a Choice Investor, are you following or implementing the right investment philosophy when it comes to growing your wealth?

Let’s discuss why we face such challenges. We Indians, by nature, are very conservative people. We are not risk-taking people. If you look at the numbers provided on public portals, less than 10% of the Indian population invests in equity markets, out of which only 3% invests in direct equity.

Our upbringing in itself teaches us to be risk-averse. If you see where most of the Indian population has been investing for years now, it has primarily been in the following sectors: property, gold, fixed deposits, bank deposits, postal deposits, etc.

Why do we choose the above forms of investment vehicles? It is just because of one simple reason—guarantee & security. While in modern times, most of these vehicles are no more guaranteed or secured, as they are also influenced by a lot of factors, both macro and micro, be they domestic or international.

You know, in my career, all the clients that I have met have told me the following same things when asked, “Why did you invest in a particular or choose a particular investment vehicle?” -“You know, my friend had invested in this property or land and told me to do the same.” or “You know, I think banks are the safest bet when it comes to securing your returns and your money,” or “You know, my friend invested in it and reaped good returns. Hence, I did the same.”

Little do we know or understand that when it comes to investing, every individual is different in their thinking, their goals, their needs, their risk appetites, and their timelines. So, we have always believed that every individual must have a different investment approach. The core philosophy can be the same, but the approach needs to be different.

So, we ask you once again: What kind of investor do you think you are—a Choice Investor or a Chance Investor? Whoever you might be, we at Safal Fintech can make things better by educating you and helping you understand the dynamics around investing prudently.

Let us give you some time to digest this, and we would like to request you to come back so that we can delve a little deeper into this.

Ciao! Goodbye! And looking forward to talking to you soon!
